About ALDI
ALDI is one of America's fastest-growing grocery retailers, operating more than 2,300 stores across 39 states and supporting that store network through a system of large-scale regional distribution centers. Founded in Germany in 1946 and first opened in the United States in 1976, ALDI built its entire business around a simple idea: run a lean, efficient operation and pass the savings directly to the customer. That same efficiency-first philosophy defines how our distribution centers operate — smaller, more capable teams; real cross-training instead of narrow, repetitive tasks; heavy investment in modern material handling and voice-directed technology; and wages built to attract and retain the strongest warehouse talent in every region we serve. ALDI's distribution network moves millions of cases of product every week, and every associate, operator, technician, and leader inside that network plays a direct role in keeping store shelves stocked for the millions of customers who shop with us.
Our Warehouse Team & Culture
Because ALDI runs a lean staffing model at every level of the business, warehouse team members are trusted with real responsibility from day one rather than being confined to a single narrow task for years. Safety, accuracy, and pace are treated as equally important — we invest in modern equipment, structured training, and a genuinely team-based floor culture where associates, operators, technicians, and leaders work side by side rather than in silos. ALDI also promotes heavily from within: a large share of our warehouse supervisors and distribution center managers started their ALDI careers on the warehouse floor.
What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)
"The voice system tells me exactly what to pull and how many, so there is zero guesswork - just speed and accuracy. It is physical and fast-paced work, but the pay is genuinely the best I have found for this kind of role in the region." - Current Order Selector, Jeffersonville, IN.
Role Overview
As an ALDI Order Selector, you use voice-directed picking technology to build accurate, stable store-bound pallets from a high-volume distribution center. The role combines a fast, physical pace with a genuine accuracy standard, since every pallet you build ships directly to a store shelf without a secondary check.
Key Responsibilities
- Voice-Directed Order Picking: Follow voice-directed prompts through a wearable headset to locate and pull the exact case quantity specified for each store order, confirming slot and quantity before adding each case to the pallet.
- Pallet Construction: Build each pallet in the correct stacking sequence for load stability — heavier, sturdier cases at the base and lighter items on top — to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Shrink-Wrap & Staging: Shrink-wrap completed pallets to ALDI's stability standard and stage them in the correct outbound door lane according to the shift's load plan.
- Accuracy & Rate Performance: Maintain the facility's target case-per-hour selection rate while sustaining a near-zero picking error rate, using RF scanning to verify every case against the order manifest.
- Slot & Inventory Flagging: Immediately report any empty, mislabeled, or damaged pick slot to the shift supervisor rather than skipping the item or guessing at a substitute.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry cases weighing up to 50-60 pounds repeatedly throughout a full shift.
- Ability to walk and stand continuously for the duration of the shift, often covering several miles per day within the facility.
- Comfortable using voice-directed headset and RF scanning technology; ALDI provides full training on all systems.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working at a fast, metrics-driven pace.
- Ability to work in temperature-controlled zones, including cooler and freezer sections, as assigned.
- Prior order selection or warehouse picking experience is a plus but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Order selection is a continuously active, physically demanding role performed on the warehouse floor, including extended walking distances, repetitive lifting, and time spent in refrigerated or frozen zones. The role is performance-tracked against case-per-hour and accuracy standards, and required personal protective and cold-weather equipment is provided.
Compensation & Benefits
ALDI Order Selectors earn one of the strongest entry-level hourly wages in regional distribution work, with shift differentials for select schedules. Benefits include paid time off, a 401(k) with company match, and medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with advancement opportunities into Forklift Operator and Warehouse Supervisor roles for selectors who build a strong accuracy and attendance record.
