Role Description
As an ALDI Fleet Manager, you oversee the strategic and operational management of our regional transportation fleet at the distribution hub. You maintain total accountability for fleet safety compliance, vehicle maintenance programs, equipment utilization, driver staffing, and transportation operating budgets. Working closely with logistics coordinators, transport supervisors, and external maintenance vendors, the Fleet Manager ensures that commercial tractors, refrigerated trailers, and yard equipment are operating at peak safety and operational performance to guarantee on-time store deliveries. This position is 100% physical and strictly requires full on-site leadership presence at the regional distribution center facility (zero remote or work-from-home options).
Key Responsibilities
- Manage total fleet operations, overseeing preventive maintenance schedules, DOT inspections, and regulatory compliance for commercial tractors and reefer trailers.
- Direct fleet capital budgets, controlling fuel expense, maintenance expenditures, and equipment lease agreements.
- Oversee commercial driver safety programs, telematics auditing, hours of service (HOS) compliance, and accident investigation protocols.
- Partner with logistics dispatchers to optimize tractor-trailer utilization and eliminate unassigned fleet downtime.
- Manage relationships with external heavy-vehicle mechanics, tire vendors, and towing service providers.
- Conduct regular yard safety audits and monitor terminal hostler operations across distribution grounds.
- Lead and mentor transportation supervisors, fleet mechanics, and commercial driving staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Transportation preferred.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive fleet management experience in heavy commercial transportation.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA guidelines, and commercial fleet telematics systems.
- Strong leadership, financial management, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
